Lance Armstrong and the Era of False Celebrities

Though I have heard little about this case, the small amount that I have come across, online and on television, has been far enough. The problems this man has are symptomatic of a wider cultural phenomena. Today, we celebrate puny action movie heroes who are propped up by computer animated graphics; pop-stars who are constantly auto-tuned because they cant sing; and porn actresses who walk the red carpet as if they are Oscar winners. We live in a world of false idols and corrupt celebrities. Armstrong is only the latest. As some in the 1960's lamented: “Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?”

  1. Dear Brother Joseph,

Your post is funny to me because you sound how I feel - - - fed up with all the nonsense.

I feel that as long as people want to be sheeple and refuse to live in reality this will continue. One time I was watching a reality show and I thought to myself, "Why am I watching people live their lives when I should be going out living mine?" That did it for me.

    God bless everyone! T. W.
